AskChanakya is a free AI-powered legal information service accessible via WhatsApp. We are operated as an independent service with the mission of making legal knowledge accessible to every Indian citizen.

2. Information We Collect

When you interact with AskChanakya on WhatsApp, we receive:

  • Your WhatsApp phone number — used to send you replies and track your conversation
  • Messages you send — to generate legal responses
  • Language preference — auto-detected from your messages
  • Voice notes — transcribed and then discarded; audio is not stored

When you visit our website (askchanakya.com), we record anonymous page visits and button clicks to understand how people find us. No personal data is collected from website visitors.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To answer your legal questions and generate documents
  • To remember your conversation history (last 12 messages) for context
  • To improve our service through aggregate, anonymized analytics
  • To send you legal documents you request

We never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage

Your messages and phone number are stored in a secure, encrypted database hosted on Neon (PostgreSQL) in the United States. Data is retained for up to 90 days from your last interaction, after which it is automatically deleted.

Documents you generate are stored for 30 days and then deleted.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate:

  • Meta / WhatsApp Business API — to send and receive messages
  • Anthropic Claude API — to generate legal responses
  • OpenAI Whisper — to transcribe voice notes (audio not stored)
  • Vercel — to host our website and API
  • Neon — secure database hosting

Each of these services has their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request deletion of all your data — WhatsApp us "Delete my data"
  • Request a copy of all data we hold about you
  • Opt out of service at any time by simply not messaging us

7. Children

AskChanakya is not intended for use by persons under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
